Barron County (WQOW) - An area farmer who came up with a creative, but illegal, way to get out of debt, will spend time in jail.
Barron County investigators say Gordon Jones planned to steal seed, plant it and then sell the crops for money to pay off his debts. He was more than $140,000 in the red and had been evicted from his farm.
Wednesday, Jones was sentenced for breaking into United Ag Services in Almena and stealing $25,000 in seed corn and alfalfa. He got four months in jail, must make restitution and do community service.
