Even though Arizona has been through some tough times, thanks to land speculation, it has managed to keep its college financial aid grants going. This is in large part from the support from the state's lottery as well as donations from private individuals and organizations. Arizona citizens looking for college help can still count on the following.

The Arizona Community College Scholarship is targeted towards students interested in a two-year degree or vocational training. Applicants must be full-time students. They must also supply their academic transcripts and complete an essay. It awards $500 to each student, and the state tends to award at least four of these plans a year.

The Sunny Arizona Scholarship was created by the city of Phoenix's Sun Charities. To apply, one must be a high school senior with a minimum 2.5 GPA. They must also provide two letters of recommendation, one from the student's high school administrator or classroom teacher, and write a 300-word typed essay. From there, 10 recipients are selected. They receive $1,000 each, which can be applied to any university, college, or trade school inside the state.

Another philanthropic organization is the Arizona College Scholarship Foundation (ACSF). It actually is the leader of a group of scholarship organizations who recruit the top students in every local high school. Its crown jewel is the ASCS Scholarship, which not only awards $6,000 a year, but also puts the student into a support network that includes group training, as well as on-school and workplace mentoring. Recipients are selected by one of the organizations that belong to the ACSF.

Another top scholarship is provided by the state's Board of Regents. The Board has created its own program that will provide a complete tuition waiver to any student who graduates high school with a 3.5 grade point average (with no core subject going under a 3.0), as well as scored high on national standardized tests. The waiver is renewed if high grades are maintained at an in-state university.

One very interesting scholarship is the Arizona Counselor of the Year Award. Each year, the state chooses a high school counselor for this award. In turn, the counselor then gets to choose one of his or her students for a $500 scholarship. No other criteria are involved.

Arizona Business & Professional Women's Foundation is an organization out to help women advance their education. It created scholarships ranging from helping working mothers to other "non-traditional" students. The Arizona CPA Foundation High School Scholarship has a wide array of scholarships for high school and college students. Each year, it provides up to $25,000 in total scholarships for minorities, college upperclassmen, and community college students. The only universal provision is the applicant must have a 3.5 grade point average.
