GREAT FALLS - "Women Helping Women" is a motto that has reallypanned out for Montana Business Professional Women'sFoundation statewide.
Again this year, the organization is offering its Shooting Stargrants to Montana women with good ideas to buy equipment ortraining to make themselves more self-sufficient. Last year,Montana BPW Foundation Inc. awarded five Shooting Star grants todeserving Montana women:
Jolyn Jerde of Jerde's Cleaning Landscaping in Livingstonused her grant to purchase a second utility trailer to haulequipment.
LaVonne Stucky of Belgrade who runs an agri-tourism farm-basedbusiness at her ranch south of Bozeman where people stay insheepherders' wagons used her grant to purchase a mattress for thewagons and scholarships for Felt on the Farm - a kids' camp.
Becky Stahl of Becky's Berries in Absarokee, a home-based jam,jelly and syrup production company used her grant to purchaseprofessional equipment.
Carole Sullivan, owner of Mustang Catering in Livingston, whichprovides homemade gourmet dinners, used her grant to purchase adisplay freezer.
Susan Faye Roberts, owner and editor of the Hot Springs Journalused her grant to purchase printing and copying equipment.
Women trying to get ahead but lacking a little money for essentialtraining or some additional equipment can apply for the aid fortheir professional opportunities.
Financial assistance and professional resources will be madeavailable for work training, educational seminars, businessdevelopment, personal projects and programs, which generally makeparticipants more independent Montanans.
The money can be used for professional training, registration fees,or buying equipment for small business development.
The grants are for projects not otherwise eligible for aid. Grantsare for business and professional development and are not awardedfor religious purposes, to veterans' or fraternal organizations,for use as general endowment money, or solely forfundraising.
