Officers and citizens who went above and beyond will be honorednext week by the Pueblo Police Department.

The honorees will be announced at a luncheon Thursday at PuebloCommunity College.

"Those honored have served our community in ways that aren't alwayseasily apparent or recognized. Often times, many hours may go intosolving a crime, or an act of bravery may go unnoticed," Chief LuisVelez said in a statement.

The recognition is sponsored by Ent Federal Credit Union andorganized by the police department, Latino Chamber of Commerce andthe Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce.

VIRGINIA " The leadership of the United States. House ofRepresentatives has proposed changes that will affect theeligibility requirements of the Federal Pell Grant Program cutting$2.3 billion from the program and potentially dropping 9,500Minnesota students from Pell eligibility.

In response to this, the Student Senate of Mesabi RangeCommunity Technical College Virginia Campus will be tablingto collect signatures in support of Pell Grant funding. This effortis part of a statewide campaign by the Minnesota State CollegeStudent Association (MSCSA) to gather petition signatures insupport the Pell Grant.

The Mesabi Range Community and Technical College Virginia CampusStudent Senate is setting up computers in the commons at theVirginia Campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14 throughWednesday, Nov. 16. The Student Senate is encouraging students,faculty, and staff of the college, as well as the general public tosign the petition opposing cuts to the Pell Grant. The petition isalso available online at www.mscsa.org/pellgrant .

Under the proposed cuts single students with no dependents wouldhave to make less than $6,000, down from $9,339, a year to qualifyfor the Pell Grant. This amount is less than half of the currentpoverty line. Thirty years ago the maximum Pell Grant award coveredabout three-fourths of the costs of attending a four-year publiccollege. Today, the Pell Grant covers only about one-third of thecosts, putting a large burden of paying for higher education onstudents across the country.

The proposed cuts to the Pell Grant will have a great impact onthe students of Minnesota and on students across the nation.Minnesota public two-year college students already pay the thirdhighest tuition in the country. The $2.3 billion in planned cuts tothe Pell Grant program are projected to affect 9,500 students inMinnesota and two million students nationwide. The uptrend since 2009 is certainly damaged but the ability of the September lows to hold suggests sideways action will last through at least December. Resistance this month is 10450 and 10700/50. Support is 10100 and 9980.

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) " For only the second time in more than a decade, China has posted a net outflow of foreign currency, a fact that may signal an impending end of days for the Chinese yuan's gradual appreciation, according to analysts.

Data released by the People's Bank of China earlier this week showed that Chinese financial institutions were net sellers of the yuan in October by a margin of 24.9 billion yuan ($3.9 billion), a reversal from September's net purchases of 247.3 billion yuan.

The net outflows were the first on a monthly basis since December 2007 and only the second recorded since December 2000, according to Credit Agricole CIB, which said the shift hints at major changes.

The PBOC reports on changes in yuan holdings of the Chinese banking sector on a monthly basis, although the data don't provide a detailed breakdown.

Informational sessions about grant writing sponsored by U.S . Senator Claire McCaskill , D, partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development aim to give Missouri business owners resources to overcome economic hard times and create jobs.

These writing sessions have been in rural communities across Missouri during the last week and a half, including a session in Kirksville on Nov. 29.

The goal of the sessions are "to make sure that Missouri businesses are equipped with the tools needed to succeed and to keep creating jobs," McCaskill's press secretary John LaBombard said.

He said it is McCaskill's effort to ensure Missouri citizens in rural communities have the same access to resources as citizens in bigger cities.

Steven Gerrish , USDA rural development representative, said USDA loans and grants, community facility programs, housing loans programs and home repair loans and grants were discussed at the meeting.

At Oxford's Said Business School the average base salary for its graduates across all sectors was $100,800 last year. If you are in need of help in regard to paying for college then you need to look into college grants for students. Simply put, college grants are great because they can be used without consequence. What this means is that you can use a college grant to help pay for your tuition without ever having to worry about paying back the money. This is in sharp contrast to college loans. Though loans may be necessary, it is very important to get some grants as well so you can limit the amount of loan money. The thing about grants is that they can be difficult to locate if you do not know what you are doing. By getting help from a few different qualified individuals you will be able to find the college grants that you qualify for. In turn, you will be able to apply for them and hopefully make the college experience more affordable.

The first person that you should ask for help in regard to finding student grants is the guidance counselor at the high school that you attended. This person will have intimate knowledge of different grants as well as what is needed in order to obtain those grants. The best time for a potential college student to meet with their guidance counselor is while they are still in high school. This will ensure that you have enough time to apply for the grants and that you get your application in early. If you are going back to college after being out of school for a few years you may still be able to get help from this person. Do not hesitate to call or email them in an attempt to have a meeting in regard to college grants.

Another group of people that can help you find student grants is the financial aid officers at the college that you plan on attending. Once you are accepted at a college you should have access to the financial aid office. The people that work in this office will have detailed information on several different college grant opportunities. Taking a few minutes to sit down with the financial aid people will give you an upper hand as it relates to the application process.
