Q I was touched by the story of Cory Edwards, who helped get a tagger arrested, but then has to ride the bus to stay warm at night. Any idea how to get money to the right person to help him out? ... How can I help Cory?

Alex Thurber, Rich Herrera and several more

A Cory Edwards is the homeless man who saw a person spraying graffiti on a sign near a bus stop in Santa Clara recently. He followed the tagger on foot and called police, helping them catch the vandal. The city presented him with a $250 reward last week, and a reader has sent a $525 check to help Edwards, saying, "I'd like to keep my donation anonymous and seek no publicity."

Capt. Kevin Kyle of the Santa Clara Police Department sent this to Mr. Anonymous: "I want to thank you for your generosity after reading about Cory in Mr. Richards' column. I had the pleasure of meeting Cory last week and presenting him with the city's graffiti program reward. Cory's getting involved despite his current troubles should be an inspiration to us all. Your kind gesture to him, especially as we approach Thanksgiving, is equally inspirational."

Others who want to help can call Lt. Matt Hogan at 408-615-4865 or email him at mhogan@santaclaraca.gov . Now on to a few others who deserve our thanks.

Q On Sept. 23 around 1:45 a.m., I was traveling on Highway 85

A You would find out soon.

Q Seconds later another vehicle came directly toward both of us, traveling in the WRONG direction. Fortunately for me, the vehicle proceeded past both of us along the median. Please forward this to that officer, as I would like to say, "THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!" I hope the vehicle was eventually stopped without incident to any officer or innocent travelers.

A Message forwarded. Officer Morgan Miles was the driver. He and partner Amber Cardenas received the call of a wrong-way driver on 85. They ran a traffic break to stop vehicles that would have been headed directly into the path of the wrong-way driver and attempted to apprehend the driver, who passed them on the right shoulder. Shortly after that, another CHP unit responded at El Camino Real and arrested the driver for driving while under the influence.

On Aug. 30 around 2 a.m., CHP officers James Blunt and Christopher Alves attempted to stop a gray Honda Civic that was weaving on Highway 101 near Woodside Road. This driver began to slow and appeared ready to exit at Marsh Road when he suddenly accelerated and attempted to flee.

The CHP began pursuing the car southbound when the officers were informed that it had been stolen in Hayward. As the Honda neared Willow Road, the suspect slowed abruptly, made a complete U-turn and began driving the wrong way on 101. The CHP then intentionally rammed the Honda, pinning it between their cruiser and a concrete divider wall.

While pinned between the cruiser and the wall, the suspect made numerous attempts to accelerate away, causing the vehicle's front tires to spin and emit thick smoke. The Honda ultimately became immobilized, and the driver was taken into custody without further incident.

Q We want to thank the two good Samaritans who stopped to assist our daughter, whose car was hit by a tire off a semi-truck on Interstate 280 recently. She was northbound and the tire bounced over the median divider from a southbound truck. Fortunately, she was able to get to the shoulder. The two Samaritans, Rudy Parra and Scott (didn't get a last name) stopped when no one else did and made phone calls and waited for paramedics and my husband to arrive at the scene. It was a great comfort to our daughter to have someone there to help her. Thanks so much.
