"Group-XP is a known Saudi hacking group that seeks to propagate Wahhabism,'' the strict form of Islam practiced in Saudi Arabia, said Gadi Aviran of Terrogence Ltd., an Israeli web intelligence company.

"The fact that the hackers offered the credit card details for free and admitted to using the cards in order to expand their activity and cause more damage to Israelis in the future shows that they were not motivated by criminal intent or greed,'' he said. "This event is less cyber warfare than cyber terrorism.''

Another cyber expert, Gadi Evron, told The Associated Press that it would be almost impossible to verify the attackers were Saudi.

Evron, who once oversaw security for the Israeli government Internet provider, said the attack was "nothing special'' technically and was mundane, given the millions of credit card numbers stolen online daily.

"Potentially, such attacks could be devastating,'' he said. "This is not one of them.''

WASHINGTON, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- U.S. mortgage service giant ResCap, which owes Ally Bank $1.2 billion by April, will not be hip-checked into bankruptcy, sources told the New York Post.

Sources said Ally will not force ResCap into court, as it would put Ally's own restructuring plans at risk, the newspaper said.

In addition, the government-sponsored mortgage brokers Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp., known as Freddie Mac, and Federal National Mortgage Association, known as Fannie Mae, would have few options beside taking ResCap to court if it declared bankruptcy. The two mortgage giants have an escape clause that allows them to return assets to the underwriter if they are improperly written.

Instead of forcing ResCap into bankruptcy, Ally will need to put the mortgage unit on life support, investing in the business to keep it afloat.

Ally accepted $17 billion in bailout funds from the government, which means ResCap's survival could also determine the fate of the taxpayers' investment.

The pastor of a Federal Way church is slowly recovering from critical injuries he suffered after being pinned to a tree by a UPS truck.

Mark Haukaas is expected to survive following the accident, which took place about 7:45 p.m. Dec. 14 in the 36000 block of 1st Avenue South. The Federal Way resident was working part time as a UPS helper, delivering packages for the Christmas season. The UPS truck reportedly went over an embankment, ejecting Haukaas before pinning him against a tree for nearly 40 minutes. Rescue crews had to use the jaws of life. The truck's driver suffered minor injuries, according to a police report.

The Federal Way Police Department's major accident team responded to the incident and is conducting an investigation. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time.

Haukaas, 53, has been undergoing multiple surgeries at Harborview Medical Center. His injuries include two collapsed lungs, three broken ribs, multiple broken bones in his face, a fractured wrist and a cracked vertebrae in his neck, according to longtime friend Margaret Sackett.

"He is going to be OK. We think he's going to live, but he has a really long way to go," Sackett said, noting hopeful signs of recovery. "He recognizes when people are there he has been alert at times."

A special tab titled the Blizzard Battle.net Balance would allow gamers to add real-world cash to their gaming account in Diablo 3. The Balance tab would work with popular international online money transaction services like PayPal, acceptance of credit cards, etc. Players can store their cash in the Auction House through the Balance tab.

However, the withdrawal of real-world money from Diablo 3 would work only in some regions where the local laws allow it. All online transactions for withdrawal of real-world money would also attract a small fee. Players can, of course, use the real-world cash to buy items in the game. So, even if the in- game gold is low, players can simply use credit cards and PayPal to stock up their arsenal.

A jury duty excuse letter states that a person cannot attend jury duty due to extenuating circumstances and will not be present even though they were asked to go. This letter asks for exemption from it and explains why the situation in question requires special consideration. However, it is important to note that not every excuse will work. Many excuses are simply not seen as valid by the court system. Nevertheless, the letter should be right to the point.

1. The first step is to locate the phone number near the end of the jury duty summons letter, usually printed in bold. This phone number will provide the person in question with someone who can be talked to about it.

2. After calling the number, it is important to ask for the person in charge of jury duty scheduling. This person will be able to listen to the reason why someone cannot make it to it and determine whether or not that reason is valid. If the reason is valid, it is necessary to write a excuse letter. This letter needs to be mailed to the court and it needs to explain the situation in detail. The jury duty scheduler will provide the caller with a mailing address.

3. It is important to use standard business letter format. The opening paragraph should state the reason for writing the letter, which is to explain why the person in question will not be attending jury duty. The next paragraph should explain that reason in depth. It is important to always maintain a professional and courteous tone.

4. The closing of the letter should always offer apologies for not being able to attend. The letter should be signed by hand at the bottom. It should always be mailed by certified mail, which will ensure delivery.

The Aspiring Professional program encourages young career women to further develop their communication and public speaking skills, build self-esteem, and recognize their professional, personal, and political achievements. The program is based on the candidates' career achievements and ability to project an image that reflects the role of today's young work force in society.

Candidates are evaluated on five phases of competition: written biographical information, personal interview, group interaction, sincerity in helping others to achieve, and prepared speeches.

A student at Lincoln Memorial University, Herron is pursuing a medical career as a pediatrician. She holds an associate of arts and science degree from Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, and completed her bachelor's degree in pre-med, with a minor in chemistry in December from LMU. She plans to continue her education with a master's degree or attend medical school in the fall of 2012.

She is a member of the Middlesboro Business and Professional Women's Club, and has been employed at Wal-Mart for five years. Her community involvement includes teaching Sunday school, assisting with outdoor activities at her church, and with community dinners at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Herron also is a member of the Wal-Mart Relay for Life team.

To compete at the state level, Herron first had to compete at the local and regional levels.

To launch its campaign for safe New Year festivities, the group on Wednesday led a band of children in the streets of Malate, Manila, to promote "Ligtas Salubong 2012," which aims to promote a "kid-safe" celebration of the New Year.

Detroit police say they hope the U.S. Justice Department lets the city use federal grants designed to hire officers to help keep them on the job.

Police Chief Ralph Godbee says layoff notices for 100 officers will go out in about two weeks.

The layoffs are part of the city's plan to cut 1,000 jobs by April to help reduce a deficit of about $200 million in Detroit's general fund. Mayor Dave Bing says the city could run out of cash by April.

Funds remain in two federal grants for new hires. Police officials are seeking a variance to use that money to keep 75 officers on the job for up to three years.

A resolution in opposition to potential limitations on Pell Grant eligibility, passed Wednesday on its third reading by the Associate Students Inc. Senate.

According to ASI Treasurer Michael Quibuyen , the United States bipartisan supercommittee considered limiting Pell Grant eligibility in order to accommodate for a loss of $2.4 billion in Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and related agencies 2012 budget.

The potential changes would have restricted the amount of semesters a student can receive Pell Grants from 18 semesters to 12 semesters.

Also, students taking less than six units a semester would have been ineligible to apply for Pell Grants.

However, the supercommittee disbanded on Nov. 21, and has yet to make any changes.

I have been in the U.S. for a year, and now have a stable job making $82,000. I tried to apply for a credit card at Babies R Us and was declined. I want to start enjoying the benefits of credit card programs for consumers. Does the credit card application affect my credit score if it was declined? I tried to get my score online, but it gives me "an error occurred" message every time. Can you please advise? -- Maya

While some retailers are open to granting credit to people with little or no credit history, not all are. It's a matter of policy. The reason some retailers might be more flexible is that their cardholders are restricted to charging at only their stores, which helps their bottom line. Most of the time, however, the information listed on your credit report and the resulting credit scores are the major factors they use in determining whether you are a good credit risk or not.

It seems that Babies R Us did want to know how you performed with other lines of credit before allowing you to have an account with them. They checked your consumer credit report as well as your job history and income level to see if you qualified, but because the area on the report that details your borrowing and repaying activity was probably blank, they didn't have enough to go on to grant you credit.
