What causes difficulty in paying back student loans?

New college graduates may find that it takes them longer to find a job than they expected. While there's a six month grace period from the time students graduate until repayment begins, sometimes it takes six months or longer to find a job.

Many recent graduates who are employed are underemployed -- working part-time or temporary jobs until they find a permanent position. During this time they may need help in making loan payments.

New college graduates can use several strategies to help with student loan repayment. Taking on additional part-time jobs or freelancing may be an option.

It is also wise to keep living expenses low the first few years out of college. Graduates can live with a roommate, or downsize into a smaller apartment. If new graduates are still looking for a job, it may be a good idea not to move until permanent employment is found. Then it will be easier to move to an area closer to the job.

Small business finance through equity is normally used in a limited manner. Informal source of equity funding includes friends and family; while the formal sources include venture capitalists. Venture capitalists generally have a considerable pool of resources that allow them to finance ventures and participate in some of the more crucial decisions in the business. However, these capitalists conduct studies before making the decision to provide funding.

CROSSVILLE - Cumberland County commissioners approved a debt management policy during November's monthly meeting.

Cumberland County has roughly $65 million in debt.

According to commissioners on the debt management committee, 43 percent of the debt is in variable rate, 36 percent is in synthetic rate and 21 percent is in fixed rate debt.

According to resolution 11-2011-1, "The state funding board has adopted a statement on debt management and directed local governments and government entities that borrow money to draft their own debt management policies with certain mandatory provisions (including) transparency, professionals and conflicts."

One objective of the new debt policy is to address the synthetic and variable debt ratio to fixed rate. According to the new policy, the objective of the policy is to reach and maintain a 65 percent fixed rate and 35 percent variable rate of debt. Also, no new debt will be issued that engages in interest swap agreements or derivative arrangements. The policy seeks to limit outstanding debt to $1,200 per capita.

Police are looking for a man who robbed a bank in Peoria Tuesday afternoon by reportedly handing a teller a note demanding money.

The robber held up the Compass Bank in the 10600 block of West Olive Avenue about 4:10 p.m., authorities said.

The 30-year-old teller gave the robber an undisclosed amount of cash, and the assailant fled in a 2005 to 2007 teal Saturn Ion four-door car. Witnesses told police there was a blond female in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

The robber is described as a White male in his early 30s, wearing a white painter's hat, tan long-sleeve shirt, white washed jeans and white tennis shoes. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds.

Christopher Fox, 37, of Laguna Niguel and Curtis Melone (AKA Curtis Kubat), 37, of Huntington Beach were arrested Tuesday on 37 felony counts, including conspiracy, grand theft and unlawful collection of advance fees.

They are being held at the Orange County Jail on $500,000 bail and will be arraigned today in Orange County Superior Court, Harris’ office reported.

Fox and Melone - along with King Harris III, 42, of St. Louis, Missouri - allegedly collected more than $6 million in up-front fees through Orange County- based Green Credit Solutions.

The Attorney General's Office will seek extradition of King Harris, who currently faces federal mail and wire fraud charges in Missouri.

"Homeowners continue to struggle throughout California and across the country to hang onto their homes, and this prosecution is another warning to predators who would seek to profit from their distress: this kind of criminal conduct will meet with swift and certain consequences," Attorney General Harris said.
